Severance

Severance is a golden calf, bound and vulnerable. Depicting the assertion of power over nature, the rope binds the legs of an icon we at once celebrate and hold dominion over. The idealized West depicted in cowboy culture is born from domestication of our land, our resources; the containment of wildness becomes the reality.
